History

We can look back on 100 successful years of forging tradition

1913

Foundation of the forge as part of the Röchling'sche Eisen- und Stahlwerke GmbH

1951–1960

At the time of the German economic miracle, the forge extends its product portfolio and starts to manufacture turbines and generator shafts which, due to the high stresses to which they are subjected, then as now, are one of the most difficult forged parts to produce.

1966

The large-scale expansion of the forge facilities represents a milestone since these investments set the course for the production of forgings for power generation machinery using sophisticated, high-alloy materials.

1993

“Saarschmiede GmbH Freiformschmiede” is founded as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Saarstahl AG.

2010

Inauguration of the new forge: It is one of the most modern forges in the world and is put into operation after a construction time of just two years.

2013

100-year anniversary of Saarschmiede — 100 years of investment, innovation and expertise
